The General Director of the Belize Tax Service Department requires all Business Companies to file a Financial Statement Return for the year 2024 (January–December) by 31 December 2025.

Business Companies that fail to comply with this requirement may be subject to an administrative penalty not exceeding BZD 10,000.

All Business Companies must file the Financial Statement Return online through the Integrated Revenue Information System (IRIS Belize) portal.

  • The Financial Statement Return is a summary return completed online based on financial statement information. Uploading the actual financial statements is not mandatory.
  • The Belize Tax Service Department will not make paper or digital forms available for this filing.
  • Stakeholders may register for an account through this registration guide and file the return free of charge.
  • Entities already registered for an online account to file Annual Business Tax Returns shall use the same user account.
  • Beginning January 2026, the Financial Statement Return will become due on 31 March of every year for the preceding calendar year (January–December).

Annual Business Tax Return

The Belize Tax Service Department will grant regulatory forbearance to Business Companies that submit outstanding Annual Business Tax Returns for the basis years 2020–2024 by 31 December 2025.

Since January 2022, all Business Companies have been required to file Annual Business Tax Returns on all revenues—whether received in Belize or elsewhere—and pay the corresponding taxes through the IRIS Belize portal, on or before 31 March of every year, for the preceding calendar year (January–December).

  • Business Companies’ stakeholders may register for an account and file the Annual Business Tax Return free of charge.
  • All Belize Business Companies are required to file tax returns annually, except those formally closed through the proper procedures with the Belize Companies and Corporate Affairs Registry.
  • Business Companies are required to file an Annual Business Tax Return, even if the estimated tax due is nil (-0-).
  • Business Companies that do not generate revenue or are deemed “dormant”, are not exempted from filing an Annual Business Tax Return.
  • Business Companies deemed to be Pure Equity Holding Companies, i.e companies which only hold equity participations and only earn dividends and capital gains or related incidental income; are not exempted from filing an Annual Business Tax Return, even when these benefit from a 0% business tax rate.
  • Business Companies deemed to be Holding Companies not engaged in active trade or business or in relevant activities for the purpose of the Economic Substance Act, are not exempted from filing an Annual Business Tax Return.
  • Business Companies that fail to file nil returns on or before the due date, will be liable to penalties of BZD 10 a day up to a maximum of BZD 10,000.
